Hazel Law Music

About

Hazel Law, GMus, P.G.C.E, L.G.S.M

I have over thirty years teaching experience, both in the UK and abroad.  I taught in The Netherlands for four years, at the British School in Amsterdam and the Haagsche Schoolvereeniging in The Hague.  Most of my teaching has been in Junior Schools but I have also taught singing to sixth-formers, keyboard and guitar to prisoners in a high security prison and piano to pupils across all age ranges.

My career path has been varied.  As well as teaching, I have also worked with adults who had special needs, made flower bouquets, been a cook, had responsibility for the musical worship in a church setting and was Musical Director of a conference centre on the North Coast of Devon.

As well as my passion for all things musical, my hobbies range from walking my dog, travelling and Jazzercise to enjoying a glass or two of good wine!

Sharing my Passion

R.E.A.L Music

Music to me is RHYTHM.  It is melody and harmony.

It is the way I express my feelings and EMOTIONS best.

Music is the ART form in which I am at my most creative and it has been one of the main  threads running through my LIFE.

Music has always been my passion.  At the age of six, I started to learn the piano, then the guitar and at the age of thirteen,  the oboe.  For as long as I can remember, I have been involved in choirs, orchestras and ensembles, either singing, playing, accompanying or conducting.  I have a piano teacher’s diploma from the Guildhall School of Music, a performer’s certificate in singing from Trinity College of Music and grade 8 (merit) oboe.

Musical Inspiration

I have very eclectic tastes, so my musical inspiration comes from a variety of sources including classical, folk, light Jazz and sacred music.  Whilst my own music education background is classical, I think my appreciation of a wide variety of genres is helpful when teaching, as I can relate to the diverse interests of students.  My objective is to inspire the pupils that I teach,   many of whom have gone on to study music at a higher level and some to teach themselves.
