As an experienced teacher with a passion for music, I have realistic expectations of my students, alongside encouraging them to strive for excellence. I enable pupils to achieve their goals and foster a love of learning. As well as teaching the techniques of playing the piano, I also teach the relevant elements of the Theory of Music for each stage of development. If appropriate, pupils can be entered for exams and competitions, both of which provide goals to work towards, hone techniques and build confidence. £18 per thirty minute session
(£14 per 20 minute session for young beginners).
£27 per three quarter hour session.

Music is a vital part of a child’s education and development. It has a positive impact on academic performance, develops social skills and fosters creativity. Studies conducted by neuropsychologists and educators suggest that music has an important influence on psychophysical and cognitive development in children. Exposure to music from a young age impacts the cerebral cortex region of the brain, creating neural pathways, which initiate a deeper understanding of language. Improved neuro processing has been witnessed in students who play a musical instrument, as opposed to those who only listen to music.
Glen Schellenberg’s (2004) study investigated the impact music had on IQ and confirmed that music increased full-scale IQ.
It has also been suggested that music reduces stress, teaches time-management and discipline and enhances problem solving skills. Many scholars and research have suggested that music and mathematics are connected, utilising similar cognitive abilities. Students that are good at music can be equally as good at solving maths problems.
Finally, music enhances listening skills, emotional intelligence and creates deeper levels of depth and understanding, fostering a sense of achievement and confidence, together with a strong sense of self-belief.

I can offer tuition in both Maths and English (age 7-11) including preparation for SATs.
